Forum posts suggest that some Cybertruck owners have noticed orange rust marks appearing on their vehicles after just a few days of driving in the rain.

One owner even claimed that a Tesla advisor mentioned that Cybertrucks are prone to developing these rust spots.

Tesla’s response to these claims has been swift. Engineer Wes Morrill took to X to clarify that the stainless steel used in the Cybertruck is indeed reactive and can develop surface rust from iron contaminants.

“Stainless steel is reactive and free iron that sits on it will rust,” Morrill wrote. “It’s surface contamination only and can be cleaned off easily.”

Even Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk joined the conversation on his social media platform, X by simply replying “Yeah” to the engineer’s post.

Even before these rust spots surfaced, Tesla fans were complaining about the difficulty of keeping the stainless steel exterior clean due to the lack of a protective clear coat.

Tesla recommends wiping down the truck immediately after exposure to dirt or contaminants.
