The GMC Hummer EV is big, it’s bold, it weighs more than 9,000lbs. It’s got lights which wrap all the way around its front and made its Hollywood debut in Barbie. Frank Baltierrez has driven one for a year and done 3,000 miles. Here are his thoughts on owning one of the most iconic looking electric vehicles.

The Good

The Hummer EV’s removable roof panels instantly transform it into a convertible, offering an exhilarating open-air driving experience.

GMC’s customer service has been exceptional, addressing issues promptly and professionally.

The truck’s towering tailgate effortlessly lowers into a sturdy step, providing easy access to the bed.

The distinctive “blinder” front lights not only add a rugged aesthetic but also serve as powerful spotlights for off-road adventures.

The electronically powered frunk is a game-changer, offering ample storage space for the roof panels and other gear.

And with a range between 360 and 400 miles, the Hummer EV has proven capable of handling longer trips without range anxiety.

The Bad

After 2,744 miles, a battery issue prevented the truck from starting or charging. Fortunately, reconnecting the 12V battery resolved the problem, and the dealership swiftly addressed the issue.

Additionally, the steering wheel stitching began to unravel, but GMC promptly replaced it within 24 hours.

The Wishlist

Given the truck’s size and the height of the tailgate, Frank believes an electronically operated tailgate would be a valuable addition. This would make accessing the bed even more convenient.
