We put AI to the test to design its own pickup truck
The AI-generated truck bears a striking resemblance to existing models like the Ford F-150 Raptor.
This could streamline the design process, ensuring features like performance, safety, and usability are considered from the very beginning.

Our Prompt: Designing the Ultimate American Truck
Using OpenAI’s DALL-E 3, a cutting-edge AI image generation software, we fed the machine a very specific prompt: “Generate a new and sleek pickup truck with a wide stance, rugged looks, and plenty of external equipment.
“This should be designed for the American market and be fitted with large tires, fender flares, and be painted in a dark red color.”
The Verdict:
The results? As you can see, AI spat back some impressive images.
It boasted a wide stance, chunky tires, a prominent roof light bar, and a dark red paint job.
But here’s the catch: the AI-generated truck bears a striking resemblance to existing models like the Ford F-150 Raptor. In a way, that’s not surprising – these are the types of trucks that dominate the American market, and the ones that often inspire custom modifications.
So, can AI design the next great American pickup truck?
It’s certainly got the potential. It can churn out impressive visuals and consider various design elements simultaneously.
However, the human touch still seems crucial. After all, it takes a human designer to understand the nuances of enthusiasts and translate them into a truly innovative and groundbreaking design.
